The Asylum Build Has Begun....Actor Call

As mentioned, we are expanding our haunt for 2010 and we are in need of more people. We are looking for a select few that love Halloween, haunted houses and scaring the JEEBS outta people in a safe but totally FREAKED OUT manner. This year we are adding quite a few new "attractions" including "Bedlam" our Insane Asylum. More info will follow soon regarding our other new attractions.

Whud're We Up To?

Wow! it's been a while!

Since our last post we've attended a fantastic fang workshop hosted by the fabulous Nightmare Playgrounds. We learned a lot and had great fun doing it! Pics posted over at the facebook page.

We've completed the first set of character drawings for our Halloween Haunt. About to begin working on a new set, so the wheels are spinning :)

Recently made a purchase of 1 inch foam board, wood, pvc, clear tubing and pipe insulation ... the build is officially ON! We still need to take a trip back to the home improvement center for some garden stakes and string to really get a feel of our layout in the new LARGER space :) Ideas are-a-flyin' so we need to see what's really do-able.

Coming in May - a class right up Lynette's alley - airbrush makeup. Lynette will be bringing CJ along as her model - look for pics posted over on our facebook page. And speaking of makeup ...er...prosthetics.... we've made a few homemade latex prosthetics ! It was our first go - so they're a bit rough, BUT, the lasceration one is a def. keeper! We also found a really cool site online where we'll be purchasing some prosthetics. Check out http://www.nimbacreations.com That site tickles our happy spot! How to vids, kits, various different appliances....its our kind of candy store !

Tasty Morsel Alert !!

Kudos to Amber for the idea of a "Plastic Surgery" Halloween-style theme, which will be a new addition to our haunt this year. This area will include a waiting room and surgical center....but that's all we're giving up for this "Tasty Morsel".

With the addition of the new space and new "attractions" we've also discovered that we are definitely going to need more actors! So at some point we'll be doing an actor-call. If you're local and you're interested, send us an email : Deathworkz@gmail.com

A tasty morsel about our 2010 haunt

From now until October we will be releasing little tasty morsels and tidbits about our upcoming 2010 haunt. So be sure to 'follow' us and check back to see what we're up to. Now onto this first little tasty morsel....

We are very fortunate in that every year our haunt gets repeat visitors...even from our most modest beginnings. The one thing that we weren't able to do up until last year is make each trip through the haunt a little different. We often have visitors that the first trip through just wasn't enough and while we have provided many things to look at, paired with some memorable experiences, we didn't feel we achieved all that we really wanted. So the second trip through was moreso to discover visual items they may have missed on the first trip... that is... until last year.

Because this year we have more people interested in helping (and of those some who are very interested in not just doing one thing), we'll be able to provide a somewhat new experience with each trip through. That means more fun for the actors and more screams for YOU!

Because we have increased the size of our haunt, sometime in the near future we will be holding a call for more actors as our 'attractions' keep growing and growing. So if you're interested, keep your eyes peeled for our actor call!

The CalHauntSNorCal tombstone class we attended was a lot of fun and we learned SO much.

Robert of Mantooth Manor was our host and WOW...his creations are AWESOME! We met a lot of really great people and look forward to working and learning from/with them in future classes.

This year we are expanding our layout for more screams! Stay tuned for our newly themed attractions which are all new for 2010!

Cleaning out the Asylum...er....garage

Today we are a bunch of busy little trolls clearing out the garage getting it semi-ready for it's change over to "Asylum-status". I'm clearing off the two work stations so that i can begin latexing things to the desk, skipping with the saw and hammering my fingers into oblivion (no doubt) lol. I know it'll all be worth it in the end. (Note to my dear friend and manicurist Angela - I will try very hard not to hammer the fingers).

Yes!!! This year we have an Asylum attraction added to our very own "special" disneyland. Hubby Chris, Brother Al and I are fusing our brains on making this new treat a screamtacular one for one and all. Lets hope we're all able to pull ourselves apart in the end! lol

I cant divulge too much but I will be posting little tidbits here and there.

Its Official.....The Crazies is a Great Flick!

We just got back from seeing it and i'm happy to report -
it was awesome!

Personally, i'm not the type that jumps at everything and I have to admit i jumped twice. CJ jumped once (to which I laughed at him) and allyssa had her fingers over her ears a few times during the movie :) Hubby jumped at LEAST once, and tried to hide it - but I saw it. LOL GREAT flick!

You wont get any spoilers here though - I wouldnt want to ruin it for anyone. So put it on your "movies to see" list - I dont think you'll be disappointed.

I am SO excited! The Crazies opens up tomorrow and i'm SO gonna be there!
The trailers look fantastic and hey, Timothy Olyphant isnt hard to look at either!

As for the Halloween goins' on....
I've recently joined the group "NorCal Haunts" and am SUPER excited about attending the classes. I missed one this year - so I need to be sure not to miss anymore.

This i'll be starting up again soon. Here's a pic of what I did to my youngest son last Halloween. It looks way better in the dark.

I'm trying to figure out a way to post our Halloween pics from last year on here without making a whole post of pictures. I want to do a sort of slideshow so i'll be checking into alternatives.

For those of you wondering about the profile pic. Here's a larger version of my oldest son from last year. I MUST add... we ran out of time with his costume. It was going to be even better...but...then again..there's always this year ;)


The wall behind him is a wall we build with pallets and chicken wire. It's a "corner unit" type of thing. The box in front of him was a "scare" - my youngest son would pop out of it when he wasnt jumping out of our tree in the front yard. We have to change it up because we have many repeat visitors :) You cant really see it - but josh has meat on his ribs.... haha - he actually had ribs on his ribs. LOL. Cant wait to see the spin he puts on his costume this year.

Josh is always the first attraction of our Haunt...its how we figure out who is brave and who isnt. We had a "chicken clause" last year for the chickens..but..this year - it's NO MERCY lol.

We figured it's about time we get a blog/website together. This is where we will be chronicalizing our Halloween Haunts, projects and more!

Soon we'll be posting a gallery of pics from past years. We have a video walk through from our 2008 Haunt that we're hoping to get online and LOTS of pics from 2009.
